Weather

Hot, humid, and rainy from May to September, with some typhoon risk. The most pleasant months are November to January, when days are sunny and mild.

Where to stay

Choose a base around your plans. For business and seamless metro access, stay in Futian near the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center and the Civic Center. For cafes, design spaces, and nightlife, pick Nanshan’s Houhai and OCT areas near OCT Loft and Shenzhen Bay Park. If you want quick border crossings and bargain hunting, base in Luohu by Luohu Port and Dongmen. For beach time or hikes, head to Dapeng, where small inns cluster near Dapeng Fortress and the Dameisha coast.

Neighborhoods to compare

  • Futian: business trips, central transit, big malls
  • Nanshan (Houhai and OCT): food, design, nightlife, bayfront running
  • Luohu (Dongmen and border): value hotels, border access, classic shopping streets
  • Dapeng New District: beaches, coastal hiking, small-inn stays

How long to spend

Two full days cover Futian, OCT Loft in Nanshan, and Luohu’s markets, with evening walks along the bay. Add a third day for the Dapeng Peninsula, including Dapeng Fortress and the beaches.
